What to expect at phone consultation

We will ask you some basic questions to help match you with the therapist that’s right for you and can help you with your situation. Some of these questions include:

  • What service are you interested in (individual, couples, family, coaching or consulting)?

  • Why are you seeking therapy at this time?

  • What kind of change would you like to make in therapy? What do you hope to be different in your life?

  • What is your availability?

We offer the free fifteen minute phone consultation because this is a chance for you to ask any questions about our practice and how we work. It is also a chance for one of our therapists to learn a little bit about what kind of therapy experience you are looking for. If we discover that we are not the right match for you, referrals will be provided. This is a consultation by phone not a therapy session.

What to expect at first appointment

Making the decision for therapy is a courageous step and while oftentimes it can be uncomfortable or awkward. During the first appointment, we make sure there’s time for you to talk about what’s going on and for you to ask your therapist any questions about how we/they work.

To prepare for your first appointment, we encourage you to read the New Client Registration, Consent to Treatment, and Notice of Privacy Policy forms and bring a signed copy to our first session. If you do not have access to a printer, we have hard copies available at our offices. By reading it ahead of time you can come ready with specific questions and we can save time by not needing to complete the paperwork in session.

You can print out a PDF copy of the forms here:

What works for you

During our first three sessions, we will get to know each other better and together define the goals for therapy.

While our focus is long-term psychotherapy treatment, we offer both short and long-term counseling. We work together to identify the type of therapy that works best for you. This we can discuss when talking about your personal goals. In most cases, short-term counseling can lasts for 12 sessions but again this depends on one’s therapy goals and situation.

Contact us to schedule an appointment. If you call our phone, it will likely go to voicemail and we’ll call you back within 24 hours (on a business day) from when we receive your message.
